PhoneKid: Finally a Smartphone for Children

An Android Phone Designed Exclusively for Kids Unveiled at MWC 2018

Children are also entitled to their smartphone! It was during the MWC 2018 that the Spanish company EscudoWeb presented its phoneKid to the press. Smartphones have truly become democratized over the years. So much so that manufacturers want to place them as soon as possible in the hands of users.

Kid on mobile phoneLike EscudoWeb, a Spanish firm that has designed a phone for the youngest – from the age of 7 – called the phoneKid. And this phone has the distinction of working with an overlay based on Android, the famous operating system Google!

Many features configurable by parents

Where phoneKid wants to impose itself on the market, it is at the level of the control that can exert the parents on this smartphone intended for their children. Faced with the BBC, EscudoWeb explains that it is impossible to turn off the phone or disable geolocation without special authorization.

So you also think your child is addicted to their smartphone, or fear that might happen when you get them one, here’s something for you: a Spanish company by the name of Escudo Web has developed a smartphone specifically aimed at kids.Dubbed PhoneKid, the device lets parents control it through an app. So they can do things like decide which apps their kid has access to (by enabling different modes) and even block and replace the handset’s home screen with an activity command.

As for other features, the device can never be turned off, and the same goes for Geolocalisation as well. There’s also an SoS button that silently initiates a call to the parent’s phone – useful in emergency situations.

A Spanish company believes seven-year-olds would be safe if they used a mobile it has developed and put on show at the Mobile World Congress trade expo in Barcelona.

The special version of Android involved is designed to be tied to the device, meaning youngsters cannot bypass its protections.
